Default Correcting widescreen in camera, but 4:3 on screen?

    Hi all,

I'm new to digital cameras and am using a JVC GZ-MG77aa hard drive camera. when viewing the footage on the small camera screen it looks correct as 16:9 (which is also the current setting on the camera).

When I play the footage on a PC after copying the files straight off the camera, the image is "squashed" to 4:3 and everything is tall as though it is still a widescreen image but for some reason it isn't being interpreted as such by the software playing it back. I'm using Windows Media Player 11 to view it.

Can anyone provide guidance on where I'm going wrong?

    Cheers,

    TheOoz

    Interesting question.

What software was included with your JVC camcorder and have you tried your playback using the JVC playback utility?

I have a love/hate relationship with Windows Media Player. It's always right there to use but sometimes it disappoints me but it usually will recognize widescreen and play it that way. What is the camera's HDrive file type/extension?

Sounds to me like MediaPlayer is not recognizing and doesn't support the camcorders capture file type/format/coding.

I am sure their are smarter posters than I that will speak up.
