Default DV & Firewire newbie - wierd problem

I've got a strange problem with my PC. It's an Athlon 1600XP, 512MB RAM, GeForce 5200MX, loads of free disc space. I put a 15 Firewire card in it yesterday and started to import video from my Sony handycam. After a few seconds the PC restarts. Sometimes I got as much as 20 seconds stream, other times it bounced in the first second. As it's a Windows XP/98 dual boot machine, I've tried both O/S's with the same result. I also tried the card in another PC (PIII 1Ghz, 256MB, Matrox G200, Windows 98 ) and got same result. I'm guessing faulty card, but want to try it on a much higher spec PC before I return it. Anyone else had similar experience?

I have a cheap firewie card in my atlon XP 2600 and it fine. It could well be the card, have you tried it in a different PCI slot?

Sorted it. It was sharing IRQ5 with my Soundblaster card. I removed the SB card, enabled the motherboard sound and changed it's IRQ from 5 and it works like a dream. All I need to do now is figure out how to change the IRQ the SB uses as I'd prefer to use that card. The motherboard manual isn't the greatest. But thanks for your help anyway.
