Thread: Sorry for the Noob Question

Default Sorry for the Noob Question

I have an avi clip, 17meg, that i want to blur out some screen text (vhs style date and info) and cut out a bit of sound. I did it in adobe soundbooth (the sound portion) and saved it at 800 meg (too large) I figured out how to black out the text and save it, 3 gig (too big). Isn't there a very ez way of doing this and keeping it around 17 meg in size? Oh, and yes, i have the adobe master collection so the program shouldn't be a problem.
    Thanks ahead, for any help.

What do you plan to do with your finished video, put it on the web, burn it to DVD or watch it on your computer? Depending on which one you choose, you can either keep the quality up (big filesize - no escaping it) especially for DVD burning or reduce the quality a lot if you want to put it on the web. You just have to choose different (lower quality) settings in your editing software to get the filesize down.

You must have been using high quality settings whereas if you want to put video on YouTube you need to select lower quality settings, as I'm sure you've seen the quality of movies on there. You need to check your settings the next time before you hit the save button, look for a web setting and see how that turns out.

LOL ok, i did some cutting and set the quality down and saved it at 2.23 meg..lol. That'll work i guess. But, i'll make my question more specific now...how do i blur out the text on the screen. Honestly, it's an in car camera traffic stop i did, yes i am a cop, and i don't want my name and department on it. What is the easiest way to do that?

ok.. what i would do is.. (i'm a newbie as well)... use After effects.. import your movie..make a new composition of your clip.

Then add a new shape layer.

Draw your shape over what you want to hid. You can add effects to this layer if you want it blurry, for example.

Then export the clip as flash movie (*.flv) as that's what Youtube uses...this should help with quality.

Hope this helps... as i said i'm a real newbie.. but i'm sure there are lots of better ways.
