  1. Default urgent XP problem...please help me!!

    Hi Guys
Just got a new system. The shop installed XP on it which runs out in 30 days. I have my own disc of XP (a copy), so they said i can use a programme called Keyfinder to input my own activation code. Probelm is, it wont accept my code!! So the version Im running will stop in 30 days!
Im told if the key wont work then there's no point in trying to uninstall their xp and reinstall my own copy. Is this right? What can I do? (Apart from forking out more cash for a proper copy).

Also, how can I uninstall the existing xp when it doesnt show up in the add/remove programs window???
    Help!!

if the shop installed XP on it then it just needs activation surely. Do this via the web or a phone call. This is standard XP stuff. If THEY installed it then it shouldn't be a moody copy. If it isn't a real copy then they should be grassed up.

Rather than help you unlock it the way you are doing I can only suggest you unlock it the correct way and/or buy a real copy.

IMHO if you reinstalled windows with your own cd and cd key then it should work. The copy of XP the shop used may have been a different service pack (SP1 or SP2).

Help! (Simple language please...Im a bit of a newbie still)
XP is the operating system - doing what you say would be like taking the engine out of a car whilst driving. To "ininstall" XP, you need to format the drive. Put your copy of XP in the CD/DVD drive. Reboot your PC. Follow the onscreen prompts.
