    Default Video Capture

Hello I am capturing from my dv camera via firewire to my computer. Due to space requirements I was considering buying an external hard disk. Would an external hard disk connected via USB 2 be a good option? I mean would there be a speed problem giving me dropped frames? I would also be editing the captured video.

Thanks a lot for any help.

I would only use an external hard drive for storage and stick to using the internal hard disk for video capture. If your internal hard disk is starting to fill up then you would be better taking files off it and put them on the external drive instead. Also uninstall any apps, games, utilites etc on the IHD that you no longer use to free up space and do a disk clean up followed by defragmenting the drive. You will get much better results using the IHD for video capture. Are you using a laptop or desktop computer and what spec is it?

    Default re External hard drive

I am using desktop AMD Athlon 2600+ with 1 GB of RAM. What if I connect the external drive via firewire?

Thanks a lot for your help.

I haven't used an EHD with a Firewire connection to capture video to, so I can't comment on how it would work. I've always gone with using an IHD and I think most forum users have done the same.
