Thread: Canon XM2 Apple iMovie importing video problem.

Default Canon XM2 Apple iMovie importing video problem.

I have a Canon XM2 which I am trying to import video from onto an Apple eMac Version 10.4.10 with iMovie 3.0.3
Although the Canon icon appears on the screen I cannot get video to import.
I have successfully imported from other cameras in the past on this computer....
    Any suggestions?

Default Have I got the wrong cable?

Is the camcorder switched to VCR/playback mode and set to DV Out?

Hi thank you for your response.
Is the camcorder switched to VCR/playback mode YES

and set to DV Out? MMMMMMM mmmm not sure.
From the back of the camera the cable I have goes from a usb symbol jack(?) to a usb port in my computer.
Below that is another smaller cable port which says DV IN/OUT.
Do I need a different cable instead of the one I have?
    Thank you for your feedback!

That's where you're going wrong, USB doesn't work for video with mini dv cameras, only HDD/DVD. The USB will send still images from the SD card in your camera to the mac, but not video from the tape.

get yourself a firewire cable (4 to 6 pin) and you'll be well away.
