    Default Mixing Desks

    Hi.

I am currently using Adobe Premiere Pro 2 and I was wondering if i can connect up an external mixing device via usb/firewire and will it compatiable.

If so, which mixing desk do you recommend which is under 150?

    Thanks.

Well, I haven't tried this, but since Premier uses Steinberg's ASIO audio protocol, I would suspect that any firewire or USB I/O device might work with it. (I'll have to try it. Up until now I've always just imported my audio files - I use an Alesis firewire mixer extensively in my DAW based home studio using Cubase, and tend to go to cubase to mix my audio to video and then just import the final track into Premier Elements)

150 is not a lot for a mixer equipped with a digital I/O option. Alesis make some of the best value firewire equipped mixers. Behringer have some USB2 equipped models, but they don't have a great rep for quality (though how well founded that rep is I really couldn't say) Phonic do some too and have recently had good reviews in Sound-on-sound. After that you're creeping into Mackie territory and it's getting way above your budget.

If Premier DOES cope with ASIO inputs as well as outputs (Like I said, I'd have to check) you could do worse than getting a second-hand Soundcraft or Yamaha analogue mixer from ebay and a multi-channel soundcard from the likes of M-Audio and patching in your audio that way. It might work out cheaper.

Adobe Premiere Pro does have the ASIO option, I already have a soundcard which came with the computer which is 7.1, if I did get the desk, how would I "patch" it?
