Default photo editing software recommendations pls

    hi,

I was using Jasc Paint Shop Pro ver 8 to edit my photos, until my computer crashed. It was a downloaded version and so I don't have the CD. Since then Jasc was purchased by Corel and Corel PSP is not sold in Canada.

I need a new program, so:

Does anyone know of a comparison photo editing product that will give me the things I liked in PSP?
    I want to have:
-the choice of measurement units (pixes and inches),
-be able to select resolution when resizing,
-have the ability to view rulers in my Window
    and
    -ease of use.

    Any suggestions?

Well there realy is no comparison to adobe photoshop it beats PSP hands down, They make a "lite" vesion call photoshop eliments if you don't want to spend the money for the full version.

You could even try out the gimp and see if you like it, it's available for linux mac and windows and it's free. There's more about it here:

    GIMP - for Windows

This may sound like a strange question but is Corel PSP not available in North America? Or how far are you from the border with North America?

Corel PSP is available in the US, but I cannot find a Canadian retailer that carries it. From what I have read it is due to the inflated prices Corel charges international markets. I have also heard it carries a couple of 'bugs'.

I did some further research and found Corel has a product called ULead PhotoImpact.
I dl'd a trial version and it appears to give me everything I want so I ordered a boxed CD from their site.

Adobe Photoshop sounds worth taking a look at. My sister is also looking for a good program.

    Thanks everyone, Judy

You definitely should look at Photoshop Elements 5, it should give you everything you are looking for but at a much lower price. It sells for about 60 to 70 Sterling or 90 to 100 Euros over here so the price of it shouldn't be too far away in Canada.
