Thread: Jerky playback in Premiere

    Default Jerky playback in Premiere

I have downloaded the trial of Adobe Premiere Pro 7 and captured video which looks very smooth when capturing. However, when I go to edit, the playback in the monitor window is very jerky. I have tried setting Quality to Draft and disabling Play Video on DV Hardware but no improvement.

My system is an AMD XP2000 with 256MB RAM and has not had this problem with Ulead MediaStudio but I'd really like to get Adobe working.

    Can anyone please help?

Adobe reccomend at least 1GB of RAM for Premiere Pro. Try rendering your video (hit the enter key).

    Thanks Marc,

I have tried to render the sequence but it gets so far then stalls.

Guess I'll just have to keep using MediaStudio until I can upgrade my RAM (by which time my Premiere trial will probably have expired)

***SOLUTION FOUND - info to help others with similar problem***

After installing an extra 512MB Ram and purchasing Premiere Pro 1.5, I still had the same problem.

Then I tried playing around with various settings. In the playback settings down at the bottom, you can select GCI or Direct3D. It was on Direct3D which it should have been for my graphics card but I tried GDI and it cured the problem - smooth monitoring at last. I then re-installed my graphics card drivers (incl. Direct3D), changed playback settings to Direct3D and it worked fine.

It seams that the Direct3D part of the Adobe installation was not correct for my Graphics card.

I hope that helps anyone with the same problems.
