Default Image speeds up & jumps during capture

Help. I have a Canon MV600i and I am trying to capture DV images and then burn them to dvd to send back to UK for family to watch our son as he grows. I am using firewire connection and have tried various capture/editing software from Windows movie maker to Moviestar 5, Funnysoft Free DVD maker, Smart DVD creator & Xilisoft Mpeg to DVD converter. Which ever one I use, I end up with images that speed up, jump from frames to frame and loose audio. My OS is xp sp2, 80GB hard drive with 30GB free, AMD athlon 64, +3000 2.4ghz with 992mb ram. Please help as the folks back home are getting restless & I don't want to upset the mother-in-law!!!

Is you camera recording the footage cleanly to start with? Have you played it back by hooking it up to the telly?

Are you capturing the footage cleanly, without dropping frames?

Is your camera a PAL or NTSC model? Do your video editing program settings match?

The footage is fine on the telly.

When I used adobe pro 2 it said there was no dropped frames.

All the settings are PAL but when i capture the footage is very jerky.

Strange thing is though is that I tried putting it on DVD and when I did this the footage was fine when played on DVD.

Are you capturing the footage to DV AVI format? You aren't trying to apply a compression codec such as Divx or anything are you?

The jerkiness may just be down to poor data access times from the hard drive. Most serious video editors have a separate, dedicated internal hard drive on which they store DV files, with the primary drive used solely for OS and program files.

Not trying to compress it. And it is DV AVI format.
