Default Effects slow video to about 4 FPS

    Hey guys,
I'm new to Sony Vegas. I bought SOny Vegas 7.0 the other day and noticed that when I tried to add an effect to a video clip, it slowed the clip to about 4 frames per second, and looked extremely choppy. If anybody could help, I'd really appreciate it.

It will only look choppy in preview - when rendered all will be well.

Some effects hit the processor harder than others and cause more slow down - radial blur, sharpening and esp motion blur are really processor intensive (just examples).

To get faster frame rates in preview reudce the size and quality of the preview window or get a really fast computer.

Anything less than a core duo or amd equiv can be clunky.

You can also pre render small chunks on the timeline to ram for quick testing at full frame rates (under tools), but you need 2 gig or more of rem for this to be of any use.

As a noob (no offence) buying a very expensive and complex editing program is brave to say the least - down load and read ALL of the manual is my advice.

I've also noticed whilst working with Vegas that especially all blur effects slow down your preview speed. If you've got a lot of blur effects applied, you should perhaps try switching off a few or decreasing the levels.

Thanks a bunch. I changed the previews quality and size and the preview is looking smoother. Good to know the preview was the only choppy part and t was better when exported.
