Default sony dcr-hc14e desperate help needed

I have the Sony dcr-hc14e hanycam. The problem is I went to use it yesterday and opened up the bottom to put a tape in and the tray just won't eject. It makes the ding ding sound and starts to move out only very slightly then just goes back in again, and continues to do that no matter what mode its in, even if I put it on off/charge it keeps trying to eject. I have to take the battery out to stop it. Theres no tape in there, so it's nothing jammed. Any help would be most appreciated as I have my daughters school play and sports day to film shortly.

Every camera owners nightmare. It's clearly defective in some way and it's impossible for any of us to give an accurate diagnosis or solution.

If it's still within warranty get in touch with the supplier/manufacturer ASAP. If not, you should consider a repair. I would always prefer to have face to face discussions with a specialist repair/service centre, as opposed to sending it away myself to someone I've never met.

Good luck, and for Christ's sake don't try brute force - it rarely works.

    Witty signature text coming soon...

I would still get a quote to see how much it would be to repair and if it is anywhere near the cost of a new camcorder, then let it go and purchase a new model. There is obviously something wrong with the eject mechanism, did it suffer any knocks or bumps recently to end up like this?
