The problem with this question is that very few people have both fopr direct comparison and so we are all likely going to suggest our own personal favourite or one we use.

I know Adobe have a 30 trial of Premiere Pro. I can only assume Sony have the equivalent try-before-you-buy option. I suggest you spend time with both and see whichone you like most.

i prefer vegas myself...the features are incredible, and it gives you so much room for expansion and creativity, then again premiere also does this...truly, it is a matter of personal preference...and i like all things sony...

again, Vegas is best for me.

I know Premiere offers more features but I find I can do all I want in Vegas and its much more intuitive and easy to use.

Well I'm a longtime Premiere user who continues the upgrade path but... am thinking long and hard for the first time of crossing to Apple and FCP.

Having said that, as Alan and others said ask yourself what do you really need to accomplish and try to determine if each can do the job. Download evals if you can to see if the UI of one or the other "fits" you better.

You may even be able to buy older, but legal copies of each on eBay if you want to trade cost for the most bleeding edge features.

Premiere knocks Vegas into a cocked hat.

Seriously though, Premier and vegas are both very good, its a matter of what you are comfortible with.
