Thread: MiniDV video capturing software?

  1. #1

    Question MiniDV video capturing software?

I have a tape MiniDV video camera here, a FireWire cable, a FireWire port on my PC and Windows XP.

What software can I use to capture the video from the tape?

    Cheers!

When I try to capture video from Windows Movie Maker, I get: "A video capture device was not detected. Verify that a device is turned on and connected properly, and then try again."

Should I have heard a 'da-dan' that Windows XP makes when you plug in some hardware? I can't imagine so in this case.

Yes, you should. Check your camera is switched on and in VCR mode. Also, another tip here..... DO NOT plug or unplug the camera while it's powered up.... you can easily fry the f/w board on the camera if you do.

Check the obvious first. If you know someone with a dv camera ask them to come and try it in your pc and also check the cable by using a different one.
