Default Capturin onto an externl usb2.0 hard disk

    Greetings!

This is my first post - so please be gentle.
Note; I am new to video editing but have some experiance with Windows Movie maker using a Sony Minidv camera connected via firewire to my laptop.

    Question...

Due to space contraints at my flat I am using a laptop to do my video editing - and it only has a 40Gb hard disk including the op.system and other apps (not big enough for anything over around 30 mins of video).

    so.

I need to either upgrade my hard disk or... buy an external disk, the question is can this be connected via USB2.0 and capture the data from the camera or will I get capture speed issues... can you get firewire external hard disks and will this help?

Any advice is VERY gratefully received.

    Welcome.

I also do a fair bit of my editing on a laptop, and use an Omega external drive that performs well in both capturing and editing. It has both connections (USB and Firewire) During capture, as my lappy only has one f/w socket it performs very well via USB, (the camera obv has to use the f/w). During editing I usually let it stay on the USB and it's just fine.
