Thread: Freeze Frame

    Default Freeze Frame

    Hi,

I have an AVI file with some footage. At certain points, I need to freeze the AVI for some time and perform an effect. The solution that comes to mind would be to copy the frames I am interested in as images (using VirtualDub) and to and them chop the video to acheive the desired effect. This would be quite cumbersome.

Is there a simpler way to go about this?

    Thanks
    Al

In Vegas split the clip at the point you wish to freeze frame it.

Right click and hit "insert/remove envelope"

Select "velocity" - a green line will appear on the footage.

Now at the start of this clip right click the green line at its start point and hit "set to"

    type in "0" (zero).

    That should be it!

You can add keyframes by double clicking on the green line as u wish.

    Thank you for your reply.

Should I use Vegas to split the video track or should I use VirtualDub?

My goal is to acheive the following:

I have a 30 second video. At 0 seconds, 12 seconds and at the end I want to pause the slide for about 4 seconds and overlay some text (which I have figured out) and then continue. I seem unable to get the video to stop at the desired location.

    Regards,
    Al

If you're finding the velocity envelope a stuggle to master, here's another way. At the point you want to freeze, grab the frame (Save frame icon in preview window) , split the clip, (Press the S key), shunt the clip up to make room for the still and insert for as long as you need it. One tip here is to have your preview window at Best / Full mode when you save the still.
