Thread: rendering down my video to save space?

  1. Default rendering down my video to save space?

I have a whole load of AVI files on my hard drive and want to free up some space.

What would you reccommend I render them down to, MPG2 720x480 ... what bit rate and other settings would you reccommend to preserve quality?

    Thanks!

    hi, bansaw,

you can use many software to convert your avi files, like "AVI MPEG Video Converter", "Xilisoft Video Converter", "ImTOO AVI MPEG Converter", ....

every this can convert AVI to MPEG (MPEG1, MPEG2) file. A lot of settings you can tweak to achieve best video and audio quality.

It depends upon how much you value your footage, and maybe on whether you might want to edit with the AVIs in the future.

If you convert them to MPEG, they will suffer some quality loss. If you then later decide to edit you will suffer quality loss again.

One option is to archive the AVIs as they are. Second hard drives, recordable DVD's, or recording back to DV tape are all viable options.
