Default How light is a lux?

I am going to buy a 'dog cam' - some are 3 lux min, others 1 or as low as 0.2.

I want to be able to use it in an average sized room with only a light bulb for illumination - unlikely to need much lower, so how many lux is that ?

It was easy to find - should have done so first I guess.

Looks like the lowest sensitivity one will be fine.

If you imagine the effect of a candle a foot away from the object. A lux is about a tenth of that.

My front room is (according to my seriously expensive meter) 25 lux so your helmet-cam should work! Be wary about these low-lux claims though. It might work in 1 lux, but the pictures will be shite!
TV studios used to have a "standard" of 800 lux but now a lot are at 500 lux (just to be really nerdy and anorak).

The dogcam I have would struggle with those lighting conditions.

Mark, can we ask what it is you intend to record in this 'average sized' room and does quality matter to you? At that low level of lighting as said earlier the images will look terrible and grainy.

Thanks everyone - I will spend a bit more and hedge my bets.

Thats when I actually get a camera with av in - purchased 2 off ebay recently - both wrongly described as having av in - grrr.
