    Default AVI Compression NOOB

    Hey,
I've been shooting and editing stuff for a long time... But just recently my harddrive is in need of some space ( i lack an external harddrive ). So i just captured a pretty hefty load of video, and i really need some way to make the .AVI files smaller ( by possibly converting them into .WMV files ). So i've heard of codecs/encoding/compression, but can someone explain to me what i would have to do, to make these ( already captured ) clips smaller?

    Thanks in advance

EDIT: and by the way i use the program Adobe Premiere Pro

Making your clips smaller will come at a price...a big price and it's called quality. If you compress the clips you will loose quality anywhere from a little to a lot depending on the compression.

Hey i found this program called TMPGEnc 4.0. What if i capture my video's, than apply that to make them wmv. And than put them in Adobe Premiere. I guess that would work.

I'd say read Evereddie's response again.

The solution is not to compress (at least, before editing anyway), but to buy more storage.

Adding a second internal hard drive is easy and relatively inexpensive.
