Is your TV a CRT?
A lot of the time arguements used against CRT are "picture is off center" or "picture is cropped" however these problems only affect badly calibrated CRTs, sadly, most manufacturers don't allow manual access to these settings (Although most do include a secret button code to access them).
it may be that your TV actually displays all DVDs-off center slightly, they've just had their video and menu designed in such a way that it's not notable where as when you yourself have designed it you know where everything is supposed to be therefore you notice it.
It's not about what camera you use or how much it cost.
It's about what you shoot,
how you shot it,
and how you edit it :P
