Thread: standard tripod thred?

  1. Default standard tripod thred?

hello.. i am just doing a little searching round and i was just wanting to know if there is a standard size for the screw thread to attach a head to your tripod?

i have a feeling there is some kind of standard size for higher end tripods but i dont know..
    does anyone have a clue?

Hi Adam - I had an email PDF from Vinten, but there's no mention of thread size in it. An email to them usually brings quick results.

From memory, there are two sizes of screw for tripod to camera. Whitworth 3/8th" and Whitworth 1/4" threads.

i know the thread which connects my head to my tripod is the same as the one connecting the cam to the head..

do you think this is kind of a standard thing?

From what I remember of the discussion with Vinten. Manfrotto and Vinten use different bolt sizes for locking to the legs - I know when I wanted a Vinten locking nut to fix to manfrotto legs the length and width were different.
Google the manufacturer and see if there's a spec sheet.
