    Default converting to WIDESCREEN

my film was originally shot in WIDESCREEN format but since i dont have my own cam i had the tapes exported to dvds to make it easier for me to edit in my pc. i noticed though that the exported clips from the dvds dont look widescreen on the pc and looked too thin & vertical. i went with it anyway and edited the film in premiere in widescreen format-- even if the left and right sides of the clips dont even reach the safe margins. i thought that during playback on tv i can just adjust the tv settings to make it widescreen.

however, even with widescreen mode on my regular tv the playback looks exactly the same as it were on the pc. do i need a widescreen tv for this, or had there been a problem in the tape-to-dvd export of the clips? if so, is there still a way for me to remedy this?

yes you can recover but it might mean backing up a few steps...

You need to go back to your Premiere project where you currently have 4:3 clips imported into a Premiere widescreen project.

For each clip you simply need to 'interpret as' and select the corect widescreen format to match your project. Eveything should 'magic' into place for you to re-export and rebuild your DVD.

the 'interpret as' is a menu option. I don;t have it in front of me and do not do this often enough to remember the exact m,enu route to it. It might be a righty-click option or in the main menu but it is there.
