Default Anyone know how to Edit mpg videos that were downloaded from the internet?

Just had a question; is there a way to edit copyrighted videos? I know that sometimes I can't place a video off the internet to my timeline using Final Cut Pro Studio. But sometimes I am able to do this, but am not able to do any editing on the video. Is there a way to edit these types of videos with these codecs? And would there be a way to remove them?
