    Default What codec

    Could someone please tell me what is best codec to use for file to make into DVD using NERO VE
    CINEPAC CODEC by RADIUS
    INTEL INDEO (R) VIDEO R3.2
    INDEO VIDEO 4.5
    INDEO VIDEO 5.10
    MICROSOFT WINDOWS MEDIA VIDEO 9
    Advice would be greatly appreciated

    It's not so much the codec as the quality settings that make a difference. Microsoft Windows Media 9 has probably the best good quality settings, 500k to 1000k per second is usually good enough.

    Normally for video work, the best codec is one for DV. Panasonic gives theirs away. The distortion is so small that one can recompress with it five times before an expert can see the degredation. Most people won't see any until 10 times.

    The worst problem with DV compression is the file size, tipically 1Gb per minute.

    Thank you for your assistance in arcsoft video impression 2 it does not give an option for quality using windows media player 9. With the others it gives a scale of 0-100 could you explain what that means please. Excuse my ignorance

    Oh.. I don't use arcsoft. It seems they are protecting the user from setting anything. I would examine the software's 'help' or perhaps their website for information about how to set this.

    My editor, Magix MEP-10 Pro, allows me to set a wide number of windows media video 9 parameters.
