Default beginner's ? about DVD and digital pictures

I am brand new to this aspect of the computer, so I apologize for my ametur question.
I just received a video shot at someone's wedding. They asked me if it was possible to run the video ( I have the DVD) using my computer, and make single pictures from the DVD-video. if so, is there any software program you can recommend to accomplish this.

    Thank you

PowerDVD and several other DVD playing PC programs can export single frames. Be advised the picture quality will not be nearly as good as a still camera's.
