    Default Video Editing

I am a complete newbie here so bear with me. Any help would be appreciated. I have a 30 minute video, 2 files are the same video, but have different extensions or are different file types: one is a VOB and one is a IFO, whatever that means. I want to take either one (as they are the same thing) and chop it into different sections, and take out a few parts. I would like to make the different sections their own files and be able to use them at different points in a power point presentation. What free software (or inexpensive software) will work for doing this? Thanks in advance for any advice given. I do appreciate it.

Only the file with the extension .VOB should be a video file.

Ifo files are used for dvd but are not video files. They are video information files used for scene timing.

Rip the vob, import into editor, render into chunks, plonk into power point.

Lots of apps out there cheap to allow you to edit vobs and do this. Most editors will do this once you have learned how to use them.

Thank you, is there any free software that will get me where I need to be? I can buck up if need be, but I don't need anything too elaborate. Thanks again.

Windows moiveo maker is 'free' with XP, that would do it if it can handle .vobs or mpeg video... anyone know if it can? I might have a check in a bit or you could google it.

I just tried the Windows Movie Maker, and it doesn't support these file types. Any way to make it support these? Or any way to convert the file type?
