Default Image grabbing (stills) of moving objects

I am trying to grab high quality still images of moving objects from (non-commercially produced) video - recorded onto DVD (probably in standard MPEG2 format).

Standard DVD playing software (such as Power DVD and WinDVD) 'sort of' does this (allows you to grab a still image) - but the quality can be very poor - depending on the speed of movement - and there are considerable interlace effects (out of sync. alternate lines) - showing the effects of recording in fields.

Does anyone know of a good (and readily available) hardware / software combination that will run on a PC running Windows - that will grab high quality still images of moving objects (from video recorded on DVD)?

    Thanks

    Howard

High quality stills from dvds may not be as high quality as you hope. Scenes where stuff is all action will always look pixellated.

You dont notice the compression (much) when everything is in motion but in a still you can.

First convert the section you need to grab to a real avi. Do not leave it as a mp2. Then grab the frame and bring it into Photoshop if you have it and use the 'video' filter to take out alternate fiedls. If you don't have Photoshop see if your software has this optioin.
