Default Good editor for text?

I have never edited video before. I have audio to which I want to add text. Think super karaoke. This will be a professional project. I need an editor that will allow me to fly the words around and color them differently from frame to frame etc. There may be some still pics and perhaps some video in the background, but this is really a text intensive project. What would be a good editor for me to use? And how long would it take a newbie to get good at setting up text from frame to frame? Price is somewhat of an issue. And for the time being, this is a windows project.

Thanks

P.S. Sorry if this is not the right forum.

Hi pster, Most video editors can do the kind of thing your looking for. There is no "best" one for the job that I know of, a lot of the "which one" is actually a personal preference thing. I would recommend that you down load a few of the free trials that are available and see which one fits you best.

Having said that there are programs which specialise in making titles, as I have never used any of these I can't comment on them.

As for how long it will take for you to learn how to do it. Thats a, how long is a piece of string question.

I think that he finds the answer is either infinite or illusionary depending on your philosophical outlook.

If they all do it, is there a free one that works just as well as the commercial ones? Also, I don't know much about fonts. Should I worry about using copyrighted fonts in a professional project?

Thanks

You could try Windows Movie Maker to see if it does all you want.

I looked at some of the reviews and this doesn't seem good enough. Now I'm thinking that I will just go with Adobe Premier Pro since I don't want to waste too much time on dead ends. Does that seem like a reasonable "safe play" to you guys? I'm going to look on ebay now.

Ain't cheap! Damn! They give audio software away these days if you buy a bit of hardware! Not so for video I guess!
