Question Best software for MPEG 2 editing?

Greetings, a simple question, what is the best software for editing mpeg 2 files?
Imagine if money was no object which would you recommend?
I use the ever reliable Mpeg Video Wizard which is great for mpeg 2 video however one is unable to place 2 videos on the timeline which is the software’s main letdown.
I have used Sony Vegas 8 Pro which is quite useless with mpeg 2 files and Avid Media Composer which doesn’t handle mpeg 2s.
Am going to give Pinnacle studio ultimate a bash.
I have other options such as Edius at my disposal.
The 2 features I use most are audio time stretch (to overdub HQ audio onto old music videos) and I need to be able to drag at least 2 videos onto the timeline for merging.
But most important I must be left with a good quality rendered mpeg 2 file (without any shimmering).
Any suggestions?

Sony Vegas Pro
Grass Valley EDIUS
Final Cut Studio
Avid Xpress Pro
Avid Media Composer
