Default Capturing audio dubbed to tape

I recently got all the equipment to edit video from my Canon ZR25 miniDV on my PC. Having had this camera for a few years, I used to dub audio onto the tape directly through the camera. Today, I am trying to put those old videos onto the computer, and it isn't working out the way I thought it would.

When I record video onto the VCR, I simply switch between "Stereo1" and "Stereo2" to record original audio and sounds I have dubbed over. However, on the computer, despite switching the camera to "Stereo2", the computer only captures the original sound and not what is dubbed. As an extreme newbie to video editing on the computer, is there something simple I'm missing? I'd really hate to have to re-do all the original audio mixes I already have on tape.

Thanks.

Is there no 'Mix' position along with 'Stereo 1' and 'Stereo 2', where you can hear both the recorded sound and the new sound you've dubbed onto the tape? Failing that, you might have to run the tape through twice, once to capture the original audio and a second time to capture the dubbed sound. Try and leave dubbing sound until post production as it is much safer and you have the option of changing it or deleting it.
