Default enhancing audio

I have decided it's time for me to learn abit more about sound editing.

And one thing I would like to learn is how to make my sounds sound better, I have a small fetish for the subwoofer, I just love when I can feel the soundwave.

And in some movies or trailers where there are explosions you can feel the explosion, but when I add an explosion to a sound track it dosn't have the rumble feeling, and I cant quite figure out to set the EQ in a way that dosn't distort the sound.

And when I have a music track with a good beat, I also would like to enhance the sound.

So I need info, links and guides to sites that you thinks is a good place to start.

I am not a sound expert by any means, and this is what I would do in vegas, I presume most editors can do something similar.

Find the parametric equilizer plug in and just lift the bass below 100 hz. Watch the levels on the track cos if it maxes out the impact will be lost. Only apply this effect to the bits you want boomy.

That works for me.
