Default newb - making my own ambient epic cinema?

I'd like to make my own ambient epic cinema tracks. I heard you can buy loops etc for this.
What software would you use? I have FCP's Soundtrack so far.

The artists I like are:
Lisa Gerrard - Gladiator
Williams - Star Wars
Shore - Lord of the Rings etc....

Thanks,,

By soundtracks do you mean just music or all the sounds in movies? Are you a musician? Or if you did download loops can you put them together in such a way as to produce your own music? Making your own music is not easy, apart from getting it to sound right and fit in with the video, you have to stay away from the tempation to be influenced by other musicians, bands or singers or movie tracks. It is a entire art form in itself.

Might take a while to find how to get the sounds you want, but this one is quite good. There's a free trial and the full (less annoying) version isn't expensive @ £8.50 . . .

Drum Machine and Piano Synthesizer Software by Aldo Vargas

Good email support as well

I did the music for YouTube - Phone The Law ? with it.

I use Sony Cinescore and have just ordered the Big World theme pack. A lot of tunes and lots of variables.

By far the best composistioning software is Sibelius
and the msot expensive

cool edit pro is fantastic for doing wave track editing at 96khz
and making a multitracked sound effects for you vids like adding surround sound

top tip to make a prologic surround sound track jsust encode it in the standard stereo but invert the phase from the main stereo and a half decent amp will do the rest

When we did the music for my short film "Fetch" we used "Atmosphere" plugin for Cubase. It is rather expensive I think (I'm not a musician) but it was very good at producing some synth stuff which went great for the film.
