I'm new to forums and producing. My question is: when I add a video clip is there a way to mute the sound of the clip so that I can add music instead?

Yes, you can work on the video and audio tracks separately and you can also bring in music tracks. What software are you intending to use?

I'm using Power Director...Power Producer...

I don't own or use either of those two pieces of software but when you bring video into either application do you get both a video and audio track in the timeline, or is there a timeline? If there isn't then use Windows Movie Maker instead.
