Default Multi-mics

I wonder if anyone here could help me save a bit of time. I have a Canon XL-2 and I want to be able to record a sound track using the on cam mic (Channel 1) and a off cam mic plugged into the XLR connectors at the back.

What are the switch setting that let me do this? Yes I do have the manual, and it’s damn confusing.

Many thanks in advance.
