Default sound loss on dvt

Somebody out there must be able to help. I am desperate.

I have digital video tapes (theose small ones) going back to 2002. They have been stored well. The problem is that although the picture quality is excellent, the audio has deterirated and continues to do so as time passes. In the early tapes it has completely gone and in subsequent tapes it cuts out all the time.

I have used JVC and Sony digital cameras. Why is this happeneing to the sound and is there anything I can do to get it back?

As you can guess, I am totally un-technical and really need help.

Thanks in adance.

As tape gets older it dries out and the metal flakes off, cheaper grades of tapes decay faster. Once its gone its gone for good. The only thing you can do is transfer what you have and cut your losses.

Thanks for the advice. I'll start doing that. How disappointing.

Thanks again.

2002 and your tapes are starting to crumble... that's scary.
