I too have just bought this camera and spent the first entire night trying to use the software. The Cyberlink software is unstable and poor quality for such a pricey camera. The camera produces a mod file and states that it is MPEG2. But I film in 16:9 format and discovered that this camera squeezes the footage into a 4:3 format.

I was about to return this camera when I discovered the authoring software I use (Ulead MovieFactory V5.0) had a patch that addressed this issue.

So I promptly trashed this Cyberlink software and use Ulead. I firstly convert the mod files to MPEG (through export feature) before importing them for authoring into a DVD. It works well and the image quality is maintained.

Hope this helps

I almost gave up on trying to resolve the software issue and nearly sent the camera back. However, then I came across a blog about the camera and how Adobe Premier Elements would work out the box and would recognise the .mod files. You should try it out. There is a free download on the Adobe website. Its a trial for 30 days and it worked immediately. It took almost 12 hours to download, but I just left the computer on overnight. I eventually bought Adobe Premier Elements 3 with Photoshop Elements 5 bundle from Amazon and I have not looked back. I am able to make films extremely easily and post them on the web, view them on the tv and burn them to DVD.
I have had the same problem I think I will upgrade and give it a go.
