please excuse my ignorance could someone tell me if i can set my sound recorder in accessories to record for more than 1 minute. At present if i want to record anything more than that i have to sit at the PC and keep pressing button after every minute

I don't think you can make it any longer as I've checked the settings and can't see a way of doing that. Download a freeware audio program called Audacity and it will give you many more options without being over complicated. You may even have it already on a cover mounted CD or DVD from a video editing magazine.
