Default extracting and increasing sound from .mp4 file?

The sound recorded in an interview i did on a PDA is very quiet, I was wondering what software I could use to increase the volume and how would I go about doing it?

Thanks

You could copy the file into a PC then use the windows audio program or any free audio-software (audacity is a good one) to increase the volume.

If you can link your PDA to a PC with USB then you should be able to transfer the file without losing any quality, failing that you might have to re-record the sound on your PC (connect the audio out on the PDA to the audio in on the PC) using the windows software to record it.
The best way is to directly copy the original file from the PDA to your PC though.

i have transferred the file to my PC, but still don't quite understand how I would increase the volume using a windows audio program? I can't re-record the sound by the way as the person I interviewed is no longer available.

Okay, I'll try to go through it step by step, hopefully it will work!

Go to Start - all programmes - Accessories - Entertainment - Sound Recorder (the icon is a loudspeaker).

Then open your file in sound recorder. (file-open)

Click on "effects" on the top line, it should open a drop down list.

Click on "increase volume (25%)"

Edit: I'm not sure how Windows deals with mp4 files tho' If this doesn't work then I suggest you download Audacity, a nice basic, sound editing program for free.

Hi I have found audacity , and have opened the mp4 in it. How do I now go about increasing the volume?

If I press play it doesnt exactly play the sound that the video does, should this also be happening?

d

PS

It's audacity 124b

and also shouldnt i use a bit of software to extract the mp3 from the mp4 first?

RTFM... Each program is different, there should be a "help" or "how do I" section somewhere.
Normally the volume adjustment is in "effects" or whatever it's called in Audacity (I've deleted my version since getting Audition).

Edit: If it doesn't sound right, then something's wrong.
I don't know which particular type of mp4 file you are using, but the help section should.. er.. help.

Yes audacity only imports and exports mp3. So do you know of any other software that would do the trick? What is Audition?

You might also try goldwave, free and seems to accept many file types, might do mp4.
