Sony Vegas and Media Studio Yep, I know they're not related, but they both fall in the Premiere Alternative bracket in my humble opinion! Post here for Ulead Media Studio or Vegas video problems or pointers...

Default Problem using Vegas.

I'm very new to to video editing but I am developing a interest. Anyway I managed to record a video of me playing a game. Counter Strike:Source you may have heard of it. Anyway it's a 800x600 7Mb .avi file encoded with X264. It has an MPEG Layer 3 audio track along side it.
Anyway I have Sony Vegas 6 and I'm just starting to learn it. Everytime I drag the .avi file onto vegas it only lets me edit the soundtrack and not the video.I read from the release notes that there were problems reading or rendering .avi files with mp3 audio so I updated to Vegas 6.0 d.When I did it at 640x480 with no sound and encoded in divX it worked fine. Am I doing something wrong? If I haven't provided enough information or enough detail in my description of whats wrong please let me know. Also do you know of any good Vegas guides for beginners that you could link me to.
Thanks in advance.
-Dev

I found the problem. When I played the file in VLC it had the X264 codec but when I tried it in Windows Media Player it opened as a audio file.
I encoded the movie in divX and this time it worked.
Hopefully if someone googles this problem this solution will help them.
But doesn't anybody know how to install the X264 codec in Vegas.

As long as you have a codec installed vegas should pick it up. Strange that.
