Best Quality Render

Hello All

I have just got to the end of editing a film and I am almost ready to render. However looking at the list of so many different format options I almost had a heart attack trying to decide what to use!

I did a small test render in one of the mpg formats and was quite impressed with time took it to render and its quality - except for the existence of 'interlacing lines,' you know the funny little zig zag lines around the blured areas.

So what is the best format to render to? JSYK, my film is only 13 minutes long and I do use Vegas 6. I am sorry if this question has already been asked before, I did hunt around a bit before posting but I probably missed something.

I am no expert on rendering to mpeg for DVDs but setting the project settings to 'progressive' and rendering as 'progressive' should stop the problem.

For a best quality version for my personal archive I render a DV .avi copy. That will look best.

Ah ok thanks. BTW where is the progressive setting? I can't see any button with that.

File - properties - video tab - field order - none. Then set deinterlace method to interpolate or blend. Depnds on personal choice and type of material as to what works best.

As Mark suggested I would always render in progressive for DVD especially if you're taking snapshots from the video (with bliurred action). If you render these with lower or upper field first you will get horrendous jitter on the DVD. You wont notice this on your comp but you certainly will on a TV.

hi guys, just noticed this thread now and need to know some more...

i am having problems with jittery DVDs so I have set my project settings to

Field Order: None (progressive)

Now I need to know what to set my Deinterlace method to? I have no idea about this.... my video contains fast moving cars and im wondering has the deinterlacing effect got any bearing on how the video will look?

Also should my Pixel Aspect Ratio = 1.0926 (PAL DV) if working with Standard DV avi files?
Up to now I have just used the default settings.

Well I would choose Blend Fields and do a short test render of a fast moving sequence to see how it looks.

Never make progressive from interlaced video for DVDs. Why? Because by definition you will be discarding half the resolution! Software DVD players have a de-intelace filter and TVs have the capacity to play the interlaced MPEG. Bottom line? Don't de-interlace DVDs!

my output has to be on DVD so what settings do you recommend for field order and deinterlace mode?
