Sony Vegas and Media Studio Yep, I know they're not related, but they both fall in the Premiere Alternative bracket in my humble opinion! Post here for Ulead Media Studio or Vegas video problems or pointers...

Default Vegas 6.0a Questions

Does anyone know if Vegas can do Picture in Picture (PIP) and how? Also is it possible to zoom in on a single even at an even FX? You can do both of these quite easily in PowerDirector 5.0 but the program itself crashes so often that it is unusable for me.

I believe you'll need the 6.0d patch to do this.

PIP is really easy. For your small image, stick the vid on a layer above and use track motion to resize it down to your desired postion.

Default Pip

Thanks, you'd think the help files would mention this as PIP is a common feature. But their help files really stink.

My guess is that they assume if you've commited four hundred quid sterling on the prog, you must have some idea of where to start and don't bother listing basic functions. The flip-side is that the user perhaps needs to perfect the idea of lateral thinking. More than one way to skin a rabbit etc.

Honest. I have hardly ever read the help files on vegas or any other prog, I learn by fiddling and clicking and dragging ang going ahh ooohh. Works for me.

Gotta agree with Mark. Experimentation is by far the best way to learn. The sense of achievement when you create something that way is the tops.

I guess I have spent so long developing technical manuals and help files, I am very critical when I see them so badly done. I can guarantee you, anyone that worked for me and developed something that bad would be looking for a new job.

I have complained to their customer service email and they didn't even bother to answer. It seems that customer service and the tech writing departments have the same attitude, "screw the customer, we can't be bothered."
