How on earth can you do this with vegas?

all i need to do is have the video stay still for the v/o then continue through the video

I am asking for my girlfriends mother who's making a nursing instructional video.

Several ways to do it, but the easiest would most likely be to grab a still from your vid, import it to your timeline, split the vid and slot it in the empty space.
