why not a good idea to use a 24P program??/

i dont have the money for a 24p cam but i still want the movie look, so i still will try these programs.... whats the best program that can do it?

I deinterlace stuff in vdub using 'smart deinterlace' plug in from donald graft, both free. Others swear by other programs.

Try different ways / programs and look at the results to see what works for you.

Most editors will also deinteralce video but the results dont look as good as dedicated deinteralcers to me.

If you want that true film look 25p is just as good as 24p, as is 30p. Dont waste effort making stuff 24 frame.

When shooting I think you can get a more filmy look by shooting at 1/50 sec shutter. This means in effect each frame is exposed for half the frame rate, which is I think what a film camera would usually do.

Some one wiser than me may wish to corroborate this or tell me I am talking crap !

yea thx, my friend had the panasonic AG-DVX-100B and it looked like real good, like a real movie, from my researching i thought it was the 24p that made that, but as i rendered a 24p in vegas and used the effects on the program u told me to use, i saw nothing different or close to what the video looked.

from what your saying, it seems as if you think of 24p = looks like film

not true.

look at it this way.

first you need to capture an IMAGE that is film like.
- lighting
- dolly shots, professional camera movments
- high quality camera
- add film grain
- add more or less saturated tones (like blue for night, red for warmer look)

then there is the actual motion (the frames or field that display before your eyes)

understand that real video is actually 60 fields a second. this is what makes home video look so SUPER SMOOTH, and this smoothness has become associated with 'cheap' home video feel.

film is only 24 frames a second , so its much more jittery/ stuttering
if you combine those 60 fields to make 30 frames, your closer to the motion of film. Shooting pal and then de-interlacing will get you almost right on, un-noticable to anyone (24p vs 25p)

what remember the motion of your video is only a small part of film look, you also need to shoot like film in general

One of the major contributors to the film look is the gamma. Gamma is the distribution of the gray scale. Film has more definition in the black area. More of grays are lower, nearer the black area and in video more of the grays are closer to the whites. If you take your video and push more of the picture towards the black it will also help achieve the film look.
