Sony Vegas and Media Studio Yep, I know they're not related, but they both fall in the Premiere Alternative bracket in my humble opinion! Post here for Ulead Media Studio or Vegas video problems or pointers...

Any one else getting audio gaps during playback? any suggestion on how to stop it?

my cmputer is Compaq Presario S6500NX:
http://www.epinions.com/pr-Compaq_Pr...ay_~full_specs

I just installed a second hard drive
http://shop4.outpost.com/product/4596257#detailed
and moved audio files from a project to new drive.
to try and comply to the help files suggetions.
I still get those audio gaps.
when I touch the scroll bar to drag the scroll bar

and sometimes it just gaps with out touching anything.
Excerpt form Sony Vegas 6 help files:

Why do I hear gaps during audio playback?
There are many reasons that your audio playback may gap:

Playing back too many tracks simultaneously may overload your hard drives. More. . . .

Defragment your drives regularly and save audio tracks to separate physical hard drives.

Use hard drives with fast seek times and spindle speeds of 7200 RPM or greater. SCSI drives typically have better prolonged data-transfer performance than IDE drives. Vegas software can take advantage of SCSI asynchronous reading, which boosts performance. If you're using IDE drives, consider upgrading to a faster controller card.

Use fewer events in the timeline, and trim silent sections to decrease disk access.

When you're satisfied with the mix, you can use Render to New Track to combine tracks and decrease the amount of disk access required.

When you run out of physical memory, your operating system will use virtual memory, which is slower. More. . . .

Exit all unnecessary background applications.

Decrease the setting of the Playback buffering slider on the Audio tab of the Preferences dialog.

Add more memory to your computer, and if your motherboard can support faster memory than you currently have installed, consider replacing your RAM. For example, if your computer supports both PC133 SDRAM and DDR (double-data rate) RAM, you'll see increased performance with DDR RAM.

Your CPU may not be able to process a complex mix of tracks and plug-ins. More. . . .

Zoom out fully so that the timeline does not need to scroll during playback.

Make sure that peak files are built for all audio in the project.

Consider using non-real time event effects to decrease processing.

When you're satisfied with the mix, you can use Render to New Track to combine tracks and decrease the amount of disk access required.

Your sound card driver may be causing audio gapping. Contact the audio card manufacturer for updated drivers.

I get jumpy audio sometimes when editing, usually it is when the processor is running at 100%. Try setting the preview window to draft to fix it.

It dont really matter as all should be well when you render the video.

I tend to work with many audio tracks at a time and yes, I get drop out on occassions. Mostly when there are multiple effects, eq, compression and a 5.1 mix all at play. In the final render, everything is fine. Have you done a test render to see if the problem occurs in the final mix?

Assuming you're asking about previewed playback, no, I don't believe it does particularly. You have to remember the machine is processing a ton of info all at the same time when you have multiple effects, tracks and fades etc probably with audio and video at the same time. I know it's a nuisance, but I guess you'll just have to live with it. I've learnt to.

What could possibly help is a good de-frag of your drive(s) and more RAM.

Just turn off some effects when editing, that will help. Of course the more powerfull your PC the less this will happen.
