0 Videos nominated Video Of the Month(s): 0 | | Problems installing Ulead Video Studio SE DVD
It came with the camera my wife and I got for Christmas but whenever I try to install it there's a dialog box entitled "Component Transfer Error" that reads:
Component: SE_DVD
File Group: _Effect Win Font All
File: D:\data2.cab
Error: Data Error (cyclic redundancy check)
So what's going on?
Ulead Video Studio SE DVD Version 7.0

.cab files are compressed archives. It would appear the one on your CD is corrupt. Long shot, by tryimg copying the content of the install folder to your harddrive and installing from there.

Throw it in the bin and download trial copies of Premiere Elements and Pure Motion Edit Studio.

Have already done that with Elements. I'm requesting a new cd. I'd rather have a full program of something other than MovieMaker and since this is free it'll have to do until I buy Premiere Elements.

Sorry, BBW! "Cyclic redundancy check" always has to do with corrupt discs. But there's something that can help you, it has worked for me a couple of times: create an image of the disc (you know, *.iso) on your hard disk, then burn it to a blank CD-R and it should work. The whole thing is to get the image ripped - can't be done if the disc is too damaged or if it has some sort of fancy protection.

I'm not sure I understand how to do that, svhs.
EDIT- Oh wait, I think I get it.

BBW, use software like MagicISO or Undisker to extract the contents of that damaged CD-R into an ISO file on your hard-disk (that's called a disc image). That's the hard part, because those errors can be unrecoverable so the software won't be able to copy the information, or the CD may have some protection, as I said. Then burn the image to a blank CD-R and it will be error-free. Ripping is the key to the process. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, but it's worth to try.

Erm, no good I'm afraid, too many errors. Thanks anyway, svhs.
