Sony Vegas and Media Studio Yep, I know they're not related, but they both fall in the Premiere Alternative bracket in my humble opinion! Post here for Ulead Media Studio or Vegas video problems or pointers...

Default How to trim DV Type-1 video without losing quality?

Hi:
I captured mi video using Ulead Video Studio 9 in DV Type-1 format, and I got a file of 4567 MB which doesn't fit on a 4.7GB DVD-R.
I would like to know if there is a way to trim the video without losing quality (and keep it in it's original DV Type-1 format) so I can save this unedited file as a backup. I no longer have the miniDV video, so I cannot record it again :(
Is it possible to do this with Ulead software or do I need other software?

Thanks!

You can trim any clip in the Edit stage and then create a new movie.

However, you do not really have to do this in this instance. This is because it is not the DV-AVI file that will be written to the DVD.

When you get to the DVD Authoring Stage ULead will convert your AVI to a DVD compliant MPEG file. By the sounds of it your movie is in the order of about 20 minutes long. So even at maximum bit rate you will fit this on a single DVD quite comfortably.

Thanks purejammy, I get your point.
But what I actually meant was if I can cut the "original" DV Type-1 file without re-encoding in order to record the file as a backup on a DVD-R before editing with Ulead VideoStudio.
The problem is that the original file doesn't fit on a regular DVD-R...
Hope someone knows how to do this.
