Sony Vegas and Media Studio Yep, I know they're not related, but they both fall in the Premiere Alternative bracket in my humble opinion! Post here for Ulead Media Studio or Vegas video problems or pointers...

Default Compression

Only just started using Vegas (4.0) and just whacked together a crappy little video. It's about 2.5 mins long but over 500mb. I know I can compress but I don't know how.
Can I use Vegas to do it? If not, what program can I use? And does it matter if the video has already been rendered?
Thanks.

Also, the rendered file is an AVI if that matters. I don't really mind if it stays in that format or changes to MPEG or whatever.

if you want to keep it as an avi, use virtualdub. If you want to make it mpeg1/2 (for (s)vcd or dvd, choose an mpeg encoder.

2.5mins of good quality avi should end up about 25MB.

Lower resolution vcd will be about the same.

SVCD you're looking at 50MB.

DVD, probably about 100MB.
