Thread: I'm Not Sure What Version of Sony Vegas to get?

Hey there!

I'm new to the video editing crowd, and I'm trying to find a quality product to edit my movies and audio for movies with. I've moved on from Windows Movie Maker, and I'm looking for something with more professional quality. I know I don't want to jump into Sony Vegas Pro and blow $500, but I'm trying to decide between:

1.) Sony Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum 11 Production Suite

and

2.) Sony Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum 11 Visual Effects

I'm definitely looking to add some special effects to my movie(s), but I'm not sure if the Production Suite has any sort of effects that would suit me, or if Visual Effects would be absolutely overkill. I'm not looking for any sort of Lord of the Rings CGI quality, but some explosions and fireballs and such is more of what I'm looking for.

Suggestions for which software to get would be fantastic, thanks!

It did not get much response then, so maybe there are not so many of us using the Visual Effects Suite at the moment.

Have you read the respective product pages and the comparison chart on the Sony Creative Software site? Maybe you should download and test with the fully functional free 15-day trial versions.
