    Well, I have the same problem with Vegas Pro 11 and MainConcept AVC/AAC (*.mp4), but - I have no any external graphic card at all !
    only motherboard built-in. And - no roll-down window "Render using CPU only"
    So maybe problem isn't with GPU drivers

    I have exactly the same issue with AMD Radeon HD 7850 card. The GPU render works fine with 6850, but fails with 7850.
    Have to wait for a Sony Vegas update.

    having the exact same problem with a gtx 670

    its quite irritanting because i used to have an hd 6950 (amd) and i couldnt use avc main concept either because the video would turn out green. now with an nvidia card im getting the cannot create file, reason undetermined message as well. cpu only doesnt seem to take too long to render short videos and thats all that i've been doing recently but im planning on capturing video from my old minidv camera and render over 1 hour at a time, and when that happens things might get worse.....

    I have tried to render with GPU accelration using the following equipment;

    CPU: INTEL CORE I7 3770K 3.5GHZ 8MB S-1155 IVY
    MOTHERBOARD:
    GIGABYTE GA-Z77X-UP5 TH Z77 S-1155 ATX IVY
    GPU:
    GIGABYTE GEFORCE GTX 680 SO 2GB PCI-E DVI/HDMI/DP
    MEMORY:
    CORSAIR 32GB DDR3 VENGEANCE QUAD 1600MHZ CL10 (4X8GB)

    The result; Slower than my previous rig; GTX 460 on a Intel i7 3.6 2700K
    Reason; Probably non-compability because Sony Vegas says; "no GPU found"

    $3.000 of brand new top-of-the-line hardware, and I'm still rendering slower than with my 3+ year old junk.
    If Anyone knows how to get a proper (working) CUDA-driver for the GTX 680 and/or a Vegas 11 upgrade to support this hardware, please let me (us) know!
    (I don't think they solved this issue in the Sony Vegas 12 either)
