Sony Vegas and Media Studio Yep, I know they're not related, but they both fall in the Premiere Alternative bracket in my humble opinion! Post here for Ulead Media Studio or Vegas video problems or pointers...

Default .MXF files and Vegas

Can anyone tell me why Sony Vegas can't open .MXF video files?

Odd. I thought that .mxf is a Sony file format?

If you're talking about a Sony Camera, I did hear that updating to V 8.0c has a fix for this problem. If you have a Panasonic HVX200 then you need a plug in from Raylight. Vegas does not recognise Panasonic MXF file without this plug in.

Is that true for Vegas Pro 9, as well?

Yes, unfortunately. The only NLE that will accept files directly from the HXV200, that I know of, is Edius Neo, Edius V5. And after that it gets into silly money. With things like Avid.

There may be some others but not that I'm aware of.

The Raylight plug-in does work very well with Sony Vegas Pro 9 which is the only version I've use. By all reports it works with other versions just as well.

Until I get a better, PC I have been copying from the P2 card on the the tape and then capturing the footage with Vegas. This works fine for now as HD is not yet an issue for me.

You know, this hobby is getting more and more expensive every day. First I buy a DVX100, then I have to upgrade to Vegas to do decent editing. Then HD comes along and my DVX100 becomes obsolete, so I shell out more bucks for an HPX170. Then the files won't edit in Vegas without additional plugins.
IS THERE NO END TO THIS MERRY-GO-ROUND!!!!!

Ok, rant is over. I'm calm now!

Download Demo. Worked Great. Just whipped out the credit card and bought the software and installed it.

Works Fantastically!!!!
Thanks again, Midnight Blue, for your always wise and sage advice.

I'm glad you got it sorted Digger, I understand your rant. This is not a cheap hobby BUT we are addicts and an addict will do anything to get their fix.

I'm not sure about the wise and sage advice. Usually if people have a problem, I just tell them to turn it off and then back on again.

Wait a minute! You PROMISED in another thread that you were not going to do that anymore.
